Lexi-Lou, 2000 - 2009

A note from Lexi-Lou's Mom...

Lexi started out today not feeling well. She spent the morning at the vet, being examined for other issues. I picked her up at noon and brought her home. She got sicker as the afternoon went on. At 5:00 this evening I rushed her back to the vet's office because she couldn't stand or sit and her breathing was very loud and rapid.

The vet diagnosed her with acute congestive heart failure and pulmonary embolism. Her heart and lungs had sounded fine during her exam this morning, but they were filled with fluid by this evening. We knew that Lexi had a heart murmur, and that there was an underlying issue that we were trying to diagnose this morning, but the sudden fluid build-up was a complete surprise. Nobody saw that coming. Lexi had a variety of other health problems, including liver failure. We all thought that a liver problem would take her from us.

Lexi-Lou passed away in my arms around 6:00 this evening. Rest in peace, my beautiful baby girl...

I was so stunned to read about Lexi-Lou's passing. Seems like only yesterday we were exchanging post cards and getting excited about her new sister coming to live with her.

Our love and thoughts are with you in this time of sorrow.

Please keep her Articulate Animals Gallery of Writing open in her honor.

It was just last week when Lexi became my foster cousin-in-law when her mom adopted my foster sis Buttons. I am so glad I got to meet Lexi in person and see that she was as adorable in real life as in her pictures. Lexi had the best mom ever who rescued her from a horrible life and then went above and beyond to extend that life many years over what it would have been otherwise. Even though Lexi was smaller, Buttons has some big paws to fill. RIP little Lexi.

Love,
Shawnee and Daniela

Dear Buttons & Lexi-Lou's momma,

I am so sad for you, and for all of us who will miss Lexi-Lou. I know she had been ill, and I'm sure that at the end she felt relief knowing you two have each other. The end was sudden, but what a blessing for her to be surrounded by your love. Your love for her showed in this blog, on Twitter, and in the sweet photos you posted. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful doggy with us.

Love, Monte & family

So sorry for your loss. We lost Willow our Great Dane in Feb. It will be very hard for a while. I can only recommend getting another sis for Button. You aren't replacing Lexi. You would be sharing the love. Xander reminds us of Willow daily in the things he does. We can now smile without crying when we talk of her. Hugs.

I have been reading your tweets and was reminded so much of when we lost our Bud. He looked so much like Lexi and died much the same way. The vets could not do anything about the fluid that was drowning him.
I have been sad about so many anipals, but I just can't seem to shake off my deep sadness about little Lexi. Such a precious baby and such a big heart. Enjoy your new sweet Buttons. She is a cutie as well.
Goodbye, precious Lexi-Lou. A piece of our hearts stay with you.
