Puppy Poetry: I Love Meat!

Oh, how I love bacon.
The flavor can’t be mistaken!

Oh, what a joy is chicken.
It causes my pulse to quicken!

Oh, to savor some turkey,
As drumstick, breast, or jerky!

Oh, the bliss of beef.
The taste’s beyond belief!

Oh, what a treasure is ham.
It’s just as great as lamb!

You can keep your fruits...y
our veggies I abhor.
They’re simply not for me, ‘cause I’m a carnivore!

Puppy Poetry: My Name Is Lexi

Mom calls me “silly goose.”
I have no idea why.
I haven’t a single feather,
Nor do I ever fly!

Sometimes she calls me “Lexus.”
That’s closer to my name.
But I’m doggie, not a car,
So that seems a little lame!

“Stink Pot” is another one.
But I don’t take offense.
I’m really not a “pot,”
But the “stink” sure makes sense!

I’m “Solid Gold Doggie”
When I go to the vet.
But Mom says I’m worth it.
(I’m a cute, expensive pet!)

“Pumpkin Head” is the newest,
And the strangest name by far.
I’m nothing like a squash.
(My Mom is so bizarre!)

“Little Love” is my favorite,
And the truest, you see.
‘Cause I’m definitely little,
And Mom sure loves me!

Puppy Poetry: That Icky Medicine!

My medicine is really gross.
I wouldn't lie to you.
I always try to spit it out...
That nasty, nasty goo!

I don't believe my mom
(She says it tastes like chicken).
It's supposed to make me better...
But it only serves to sicken!

Puppy Poetry: My Version of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

While Mom and I were walking around the pond this morning, she was laughing about how I always tinkle in lots and lots of spots. All doggies know that they've got to sniff and potty where other doggies have. So, after Mom laughed about that I decided to come up with my own version of "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star." I call it "Tinkle, Tinkle While I Walk." Feel free to hum along when you read it:

Tinkle, Tinkle While I Walk

Tinkle, Tinkle while I walk
That's how doggies like to talk.

By a rock or on a tree
Those are places that we pee.

Tinkle, Tinkle while I walk
That's how doggies like to talk.

Puppy Poetry: Why I Can't Post Very Often

School keeps Mom so busy
She's such a laptop hog!
She never lets me use it.
To write upon my blog!

But to my faithful readers
My Mom says "never fear."
She'll let me use the laptop more
Once she graduates this year!

Puppy Poetry: Rain, Rain, Go Away!

Rain, rain, go away.
I’m sick and tired
of all this gray!

I must abstain from peeing in the rain.

You can bet that I hate to be wet.

I just can’t perform in the middle of a storm.

Rain, rain, go away
Or I guess I just
Won’t pee today!

Puppy Poetry: No Poo for Lou

I’m Lexi-Lou
And I refuse to poo.

Yes it’s true,
I’m overdue.

Mom hasn’t a clue,
Why I refuse to doo.

If she only knew
But I’ll tell you…

Things are quite constraining
Just because it’s raining.

Puppy Poetry: Taking a Bath

Taking a Bath

I had to take a bath today
And I must sincerely say
(Even if it is cliché)
Keep that bath water away!

Just like any respectful pet
Water really makes me fret
So please remember, don’t forget
That I hate to be wet!

Water’s only good to drink
And I really, truly think
Baths can put me on the brink…
So please, oh please just let me stink!

Puppy Poetry: The Trials of Being Little

It’s hard to be a little hound
You’re very near to the ground.

Everything you see is tall
When you’re very, very small.

When it rains your belly gets wet.
It’s hard to be a little pet.

The ground gets hot when its sunny.
And I’m so close to it that that ain’t funny.

In winter your belly really gets chilly
I’d wear a coat, but that looks silly.

Ice and snow and even sleet
Sure do freeze my little legs and feet.

But slipping on the ice isn’t bad at all
‘Cause little doggies don’t have far to fall!

Puppy Poetry: Doggie Food

Doggie food from a can is the best.
That I’m sure nobody will contest.

The dry, crunchy stuff I do detest
And will only eat under protest.

Canned is what I’ll request
And always plan to suggest.

Better than the rest,
It’s easier to digest

It’s the best!
I can attest.

Puppy Poo-etry

I take the time
Just to find
The very perfect spot.

I get ready,
Do what I do,
And give it all I’ve got.

So why does Mom pick up the poo?

Just once I wish
She’d leave it there
In the spot that I picked out.

Other doggies
Would all know
That I was there without a doubt.

But my Mom picks up the poo.

It’s a simple system
That dogs have.
It’s how we catch the news.

We leave a gift
For friends to find,
And we know whose is whose.

Why can’t Mom leave my poo?

Plenty of dogs
Leave their mark
Out there in the grass.

No, not me,
That can’t be.
I guess I’ll have to pass.

My mom picks up the poo.

Puppy Poetry: Home Alone

As I sit here, watching QVC
I wonder where my Mom could be.

Is she gone for work or play?
When’s she coming home today?

I sure miss her when she’s away.
But I know it’ll be o.k.

Soon she’ll come home to me.
Until then I’ll just watch TV.

Puppy Poetry on My Favorite Thing

A cookie is a lovely treat
I like so very much to eat.
But cookies for me aren’t anything sweet.
I prefer mine made with meat!

Veggies are always such a bore,
And something that I really abhor,
But meat’s sure something I can’t ignore
Because I’m such a carnivore!

I’m sure other doggies won’t debate
That meat’s sure something that is great.
But my cravings for meat just won’t abate.
And now I have trouble with my weight…

Ode to the Squeaky Toy

It’s time to let my creative side out. Here’s some puppy poetry…

Ode to the Squeaky Toy

It sits on the floor so quietly,
But the toy senses its doom.
Suddenly I pounce
And fling it across the room!

Just as soon as it’s landed
I attack a second time.
I growl and chew and fling again.
Oh, the joy is so sublime!

I shake my head about
With a firm hold on the toy.
Then I start to chew
And that’s what I most enjoy!

I chomp with my little teeth,
Through the soft fabric plush,
Until I find that squeaker
Then oh, what a rush!

I chew and squeak
Then squeak some more.
The room’s soon filled
With squeaks galore!

But then the moment passes.
The toy goes back to the floor
For I’m such a busy doggie
With lots and lots to explore!

But I’ll be back again in no time.
There’s a draw that you can’t destroy.
I certainly have a weakness
For a great squeaky toy!
